Responsive Design Survey

Last month, we sent out a link to our responsive survey.

We received a great response, and there were some interesting responses.

  • 65% of people on our email list didn’t know what responsive design meant
  • 36% of our survey poll say they already have a responsive website
  • 42% of people asked say they never look at their website analytics
  • 48% of people on our mailing list responded “I don’t know” to the question regarding the different types of device users visit your websites from.

We did some follow-up ‘investigations’ to determine how many of your websites were responsive and found that most of you do not have responsive sites. The idea behind the survey was to get you thinking about your online presence and who visits you. What device/platform are people using to access your site? Has this changed in the last 12 months? Do you have a high bounce rate? If so, why? Might it be that your content is not accessible/user-friendly on mobiles and/or tablets?

We can tell you that in the last 12 months, there has been not just an increase but a massive leap in the number of people accessing websites from different devices, and this trend is not set to change. Remember, Responsive design is not just about mobile users! Think about screen sizes, from mobile to phablets, tablets, and desktops.

Responsive design is important—you might even say crucial—for any website as it aids in future-proofing your website, catering for devices that have yet to be created. Responsive design prioritises your content, ensuring that the visitor is presented with key messages as soon as they access your site. It displays clear calls to action to encourage user engagement, creating higher conversion rates and an improved user journey.

Recommendations

  • Think about that competitive advantage! Are your top competitors ahead of you in the game?
  • Look at your Google Analytics (or contact us, and we will look for you). This can give you a very good picture of where your site is now and how it’s being used. Look at the change in the last 12 months and compare.
  • Could your website benefit from utilising some of the features on a phone or tablet device? (camera, GPS, etc)
  • View your website on different devices; how is it for you? Good experience?
  • Never presume that because your target audience is older, you needn’t worry—this is the fastest-growing market for device purchases!
