Safer Internet Day 11.02.2024: Let’s create a better internet together

Be it on a desktop, mobile or tablet I think it’s safe to say that a huge number of us use the internet, lots of you, like us, will use it practically every day whilst others will tend to use it less frequently. Safer Internet Day (SID) promotes the ‘responsible use of online technology and mobile phones for children and young people’, there is a host of information freely available on the internet and Safer Internet Day aims to promote awareness around the safe and responsible use of the internet. The theme for SID 2024 is ‘Lets create a better internet together’ which recognizes the importance of encouraging users to embrace the ‘positive’ online whilst moving past the ‘negative’ online.

SID offers a chance to focus on the opportunities that the internet provides and highlight stakeholders’ responsibilities in creating a ‘better internet’. The UK Safer Internet Centre provides Safer Internet Day specific resources to support children and young people, parents and carers, alongside teachers and school staff and provides an opportunity for a wide range of organisations to join together to ‘amplify’ the Safer Internet message.

The UK Safer Internet Centre is made up of a partnership of three leading charitable organisations, Childnet International, the South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL), and the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF). The partners all work towards the same Childnet target of making the internet a ‘great and safe place for children’, alongside this all partners are aware of the abundance of opportunities offered by the internet including educational, social and economic plus lots more.
